Disney Movie Night: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

How to Create a Magical Snow White Movie Night for Your Family

My kids have always been into themed movie nights, and me, being creative and sometimes a little extra, have always enjoyed coming up with a theme to match each movie. It’s been a fun family tradition, and for 2025, we’ve decided as a family to re-watch all Disney animated movies in order of their release. To make it even more special, we’ll be hosting a themed night for each one!

Starting with

the very first Disney animated movie, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, we created a magical night inspired by this beloved classic. From creative snacks and whimsical decorations to activities that immerse everyone in the story, this guide will help you create a night your family will never forget.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a beloved classic that holds a special place in Disney history. Released in 1937, it was Walt Disney’s first full-length animated feature film and the world’s first feature-length animated movie. Based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, the story follows Snow White, a kind princess, as she escapes her evil stepmother, the Queen, and finds refuge with seven dwarfs. The movie’s groundbreaking animation, unforgettable songs like "Heigh-Ho” and “Someday My Prince Will Come,” and timeless story have made it a cherished film for generations.

Here are a few steps to get you started on this fun adventure:

Step 1: Set the Scene

Transform your space into the enchanted forest where Snow White’s adventure unfolds.

Decorations: Use fake leaves, apples, and woodland-themed items to create a cozy forest vibe. Scatter faux fall leaves around the table and add a mirror (for “Mirror, Mirror on the Wall”) to tie in the theme.

Ambiance:Dim the lights and play instrumental Disney music before the movie begins to build excitement.

Step 2: Themed Snacks and Treats

Bring the magic of Snow White to life with these movie-inspired snacks:

Poison Apples: Create caramel apples on sticks for a sweet treat with a hint of danger (but no poison here!) ~I kept this part very simple by getting a caramel apple kit at the store and Pretzel rods.

Label it Posion apples for that extra touch

Dwarfs’ Treasure Bags: Fill brown paper bags with mixed goodies like trail mix, candies, or chocolate coins to resemble the dwarfs’ mined treasures. ~ I went to dollar tree and looked for candy that might resemble treasures/gold and filled up each bag with a mix of them.

Label it "find your gems" and have your kids dig for gold.

Popcorn: Serve popcorn in striped bags for a classic touch. Again, to go with the movie theme, I grabbed these paper bags from my local Dollar tree and made sure to roll down the top of the bag a bit to give a "treasure bag look".

Soft Pretzels: Add some whimsy with soft pretzels shaped like wands. I'll be honest here, my son is obsessed with soft pretzels so it somehow always ends up on the menu. I feel like the color and shape went along with the theme!

● Label it Dwarfs pretzels to match the theme!

Forest Treats: Include candy rocks displayed in a moss-like bowl for a nod to the forest.  ~ Here you could add any treat that resembles what the forest animals would eat ( I've done carrots and ranch before)

Magical Kisses: get some Hershey chocolate kisses and spread it on the table to go along with the theme.

Precious Jewels: make Jello and cut it up in smalls squares to resemble jewels!

Fancy drinks: we add apple cider to fancy plastic cups ( found at dollar tree) and cheer right before the movie starts!

BONUS TIP: as far main entree goes, we've had soup in bread bowls or hot dogs to go with the theme.

Step 3: Fun Activities Before the Movie

Keep the family engaged with themed activities:

Coloring Pages: Print Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs coloring sheets for the kids. ~I've found plenty of printables online either on Pinterest or doing a quick Google search.

Treasure Hunt: Set up a quick scavenger hunt for “dwarfs’ gold” around the house or yard.  ~ I've once again went to Dollar tree and found plastic gold coins, sparkly rings as jewels.

Mirror Messages: Use a mirror and whiteboard markers for kids to write their own “fairest of them all” messages.

Step 4: Press Play and Enjoy the Magic

Settle in, grab your snacks, and enjoy the timeless classic, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Why Themed Movie Nights are Worth It:

Themed movie nights add an extra layer of fun and bonding for the entire family. They encourage creativity, make lasting memories, and give everyone something to look forward to. We've been doing these themed movie nights for many years and my kids still look forward to it each time.

~I love how little they are on this picture ( they are both taller than me now. Ha)

Hosting a Snow White-themed family movie night is easier than you think! With a little planning and creativity, you can turn an ordinary evening into a magical adventure.
